When the Glen Ridge Public Library opened its doors in 1912, it established itself as the center for information and education, as a repository for Glen Ridge history and culture, and as a hub for community events. Over the last 100 years, the Library has evolved with expansions, renovations, historically correct restorations, as well as keeping pace with the technology of the 21st century. Throughout this time, the Glen Ridge Library has remained true to its mission: to provide informed assistance to all patrons, and to provide access to all our collections and programs.
The theme for 2012, the 100th anniversary of the Glen Ridge Public Libray, is Celebrating Our History. This web site has been created to showcase the history of the Glen Ridge Public Library. We invite you to view our historical photo collection and to share a Library memory by signing our guestbook.
On this site you can access information about our Local History Preservation Project. For our Centennial year, we have set a goal to raise the funds necessary to preserve Glen Ridge's rich history by digitizing our local history collection. Digitally archiving this one-of-a-kind collection will preserve our collection for future generations. This priceless collection includes one hundred years of Glen Ridge High School yearbooks, over 70 years of the Glen Ridge Paper, photos, maps, city directories, and more.
The Glen Ridge Public Library invites you to join in celebrating its Centennial anniversary by attending the special programs and events scheduled throughout the year. Also, there will be opportunities for our patrons to support our year-long fundraising campaign. We encourage you to buy a plaque and be part of our donor wall, to upgrade your library card to a very convenient commemorative key chain library card, to buy a fair-share raffle ticket, and to take part in our all night read-a-thon.
Come and celebrate the Centennial year of the Glen Ridge Public Library.
Sincerely, The staff and Board of Trustees of the Glen Ridge Public Library
